August 28, 2026 — Patrick. Late buy-in payment (paid roughly one minute past deadline). Ruling: written penalty covers only ongoing non-payment and does not apply to a same-day payment. Official warning issued, no forfeiture or fee assessed. Full ruling in Statements.
The Patrick late payment scandal
Original rule, as stated: "Official punishment will be forfeiting your FLEX position every week until you pay. Every week you don't pay you'll be required to pay an additional $10 fee."
This league runs on honesty and integrity. As Commissioner, I am owning up to it: the rule was written poorly, and Patrick should not eat a penalty for that.
Patrick paid about a minute after the deadline. The rule only covers ongoing non-payment, and since he did pay, it doesn't apply. No penalty.
He has, however, been issued an official NDL rules violation warning, entered into the official NDL Book of Record, Section D: Rules Violations.
As Commissioner, I run a strongly integrity-based league. Honesty is the number one priority here, and that is exactly what I delivered today.
Matter closed.
— The Commissioner
League —
Over the last few minutes I've thought hard about a decision I made using this position, and I want to address it directly.
When Patrick was late on his buy-in, I texted him proposing he trade me Iowa D in exchange for me not enforcing his FLEX penalty. No trade was actually executed — nothing changed hands — but the offer itself was wrong. Using the commissioner role to try to extract value from a member, even informally, even if it never went through, is not how this league should be run.
Here's what I'm doing about it:
This doesn't undo the fact that I tried to use the position for personal gain. I'm sorry to Patrick specifically, and to the rest of you for putting the league's trust in this seat at risk. Being commissioner means running this fairly for everyone, not leveraging it for my own roster. I'll hold myself to that the rest of the year.
